1. HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The DOIT initiative was born as a response to the call for transparency and accountability of the diocese’s assets and resources, a concern which was taken and seriously considered. This resonated with Bishop Patricio Buzon’s vision of a presbyterium rooted in the spirituality of responsible stewardship. After several dialogues and discernment, an idea was conceived: to create a financial and information management system that is automated and would be utilized across the different parishes, schools, and institutes under the care of the diocese. The plan was then presented to the presbyteral council and board of consultors, which was eagerly received and approved. This prompted the formation of an Ad Hoc committee, a team composed of Fr. Regner, Fr. Roy, Fr. Mitch, Fr. Greg, and Msgr. Joy, that would ensure the realization of the plan. Mr. Dennis Doblar was then tapped to create a roadmap, identify technical problems and concerns, and generate system solutions and directions that would respond to the need. In no time, the Diocesan Office of Information Technology was established, a team of ordained and lay people laying down a user-friendly system that reflects the Church’s operation in the local communities, as well as in the diocesan level. With this new system, the data-keeping of the whole diocese has become unified, and the pooling of resources has been centralized, hence making the Diocese of Bacolod as a church that is truly one.
